Aaron Horkey is contemporary artist born in Windom, Minnesota specializing primarily in pen and Ink. Horkey is a prolific artist making many posters for concerts and movies, including bands such as Isis and Converge along with a movie poster for Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Much of his work is sold by the online store Mondo.

Unfortunately I could not find much information about his education, training and what he does to study, but overall I feel like I can take away a lot of things I like about his work. Firstly, me and him have very similar subject matters and I feel like Horkey implements the subject matter into a narrative very effectively and it would be great to dissect and study. I feel like Horkey's understanding of form and lighting is definitely a quality I would wish to copy and try and implement into my own art. I feel like one way his is so effective is due to the use of colored paper along with use of white ink for highlights.

Additionally one thing I noticed that makes his art so effective is a minimal background with a detail heavy foreground, which I have been trying to do in my own art but not as effectively as I would want it to be. There are many repeated elements in his art was well such as the geometric shapes and organic shapes combined with architectural elements is a really nice juxtaposition and helps differentiate forms well, which I hope to implement into my own future art.
